Our take on Heading Out
The store framing foregrounds speed, danger, and personal legend, but the central play loop also involves fuel, vehicle condition, focus, reputation, wanted status, and route decisions. It is a choice-driven road adventure with racing sections, rather than a driving-only experience.
What is Heading Out?
Heading Out combines high-speed driving with a branching road-trip story across a stylized version of America.
Players guide the Interstate Jackalope on a cross-country pursuit of the world’s greatest driver, choosing routes and responding to encounters along the way. Fuel, vehicle condition, and focus must be managed while deciding whether to assist strangers, race other drivers, or avoid the law. These decisions affect reputation, wanted status, challenges, characters, and the developing narrative. The game uses roguelike route structures, so journeys can vary between attempts. Its presentation uses black-and-white comic imagery with selected color accents, accompanied by jazz and rock music. Story outcomes include multiple endings and interactions with characters facing their own moral dilemmas.
