SimulationIs Hardwar worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Players who enjoy science-fiction trading games with ship upgrades and contract selection
- Simulation fans who want a career built around deliveries, escorts, salvage, and increasingly risky work
- Players interested in factional conflict, reputation, and escaping a hostile space colony
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a linear campaign may not fit a game structured around choosing jobs and deciding how to operate within the colony
- Those wanting immediate access to advanced ships and equipment may dislike progression through credit, reputation, and upgraded Moths
- Players looking for a game centered on ground-based exploration may not fit a setting focused on spacecraft, craters, and tunnel links
Our take on Hardwar
The escape objective gives the setting a clear destination, but the day-to-day structure centers on repeated contracts, reputation building, and ship investment. The broad freedom of the premise therefore sits alongside a defined trade-and-upgrade progression loop.
What is Hardwar?
Hardwar is set in (Misplaced) Optimism, a failing settlement spread across nine craters on Titan.
Players act as independent operatives who scan communications for work and use a spacecraft called a Moth to carry out delivery, escort, and salvage jobs. Growing reputation opens access to higher-paying contracts, including bounty hunting, assassination, and demolition. Earnings and credit can be invested in larger ships, improved hardware, software, cargo capacity, communications equipment, onboard computing, and weapons. The settlement’s solar-powered lightwells provide free power but are contested. Criminal activity can bring retaliation, while alliances and reputation affect the risks of operating among corporations, cartels, and rival scavengers. Progression leads toward a warp-drive Moth with interplanetary capability and an attempt to leave Titan.
How Hardwar plays
- 01Contract-Based Progression
- Work begins with delivery, escort, and salvage assignments before reputation unlocks bounty, assassination, and demolition jobs.
- 02Ship Upgrades
- Credits can be spent on a larger Moth along with improved hardware, software, cargo capacity, communications, computing, and weapons.
- 03Reputation System
- Standing affects access to more lucrative work and forms part of the route toward leaving Titan.
- 04Contested Power Sites
- Solar-powered lightwells charge ships and supply the craters, making them valuable locations within the settlement.
- 05Criminal Consequences
- Serious illegal activity can provoke retaliation from other groups operating in the colony.
