Our take on hackmud
The listing pitches both an introduction for newcomers and a world shaped by veteran players. Its onboarding covers the fundamentals, while much of the described activity—markets, alliances, and reputation—depends on navigating the player community.
What is hackmud?
hackmud is a retro cyberpunk RPG set in an abandoned internet.
Players use scripts, scams, and sabotage as they explore digital secrets and pursue goals such as uncovering lore, building tools or games, running social hubs, or forming corporations. The persistent world includes player-run businesses, underground trading, and shifting alliances; player actions can affect its markets and reveal puzzles. Reputation, rather than levels, is the measure of standing, shaped by dealings with other players. New players start with scripts made by others and a guided marks system that teaches the basics. The game also features a retro interface and a soundtrack by Lena Raine and Ryan Ike.
