RPGIs Onset worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Aspiring programmers who want to learn Lua through game creation
- Multiplayer creators who want to host custom scripted experiences
- Sandbox players who prefer user-made game modes over fixed objectives
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a structured campaign or predefined objectives may find the open-ended format lacking direction.
- Players wanting a finished, tightly authored game loop may find scripting and community-made modes too variable.
- Players uninterested in writing or using scripts may have limited reasons to engage with the sandbox.
Our take on Onset
Instead of supplying a conventional campaign or fixed objective structure, Onset opens with an empty map and treats scripting as the central activity. Its genre departure is the replacement of authored progression with player-created modes, rules, and multiplayer experiences.
What is Onset?
Onset is an open-world sandbox centered on Lua scripting rather than predefined objectives.
Players can use more than 400 Lua functions to build game modes, alter environments, and host custom experiences. Scripts can run on the server or client, with support for solo play through localhost and multiplayer servers for up to 300 players. The game supports custom maps, imported characters, animations, props, sounds, and particles. Lua functions can also add vehicles, helicopters, NPCs, objects, and damage behavior. Other systems include configurable weapon damage, HTML/CSS/JS interface customization, and in-game voice communication. Players can run their own scripts or play modes created by others.
