We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Turn-based strategy players who want battles built around a four-hero team
- Tactical players who enjoy swapping front- and back-line characters during combat
- Fantasy combat fans who want hero upgrades, magical items, and Boss fights
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking real-time combat may bounce off the turn-based, position-swapping battle system
- Players wanting a broad party-management system may find the focus on four active heroes restrictive
- Players who do not enjoy repeating tactical battles across additional difficulty levels may lose interest
Our take on Guards
The bounce point arrives at the turn system itself: every move requires changing the positions of two heroes, with front-line entry tied to superattacks. Players who prefer direct attacks or free-form character movement may hit that restriction before the upgrade and item systems become relevant.
What is Guards?
Guards is a turn-based strategy game built around a team of four heroes.
Three heroes fight on the front line while the fourth recovers health behind them. Each move changes the positions of two heroes, and moving a hero forward triggers that character’s superattack. The knight can stun enemies along a line, while the huntress fires energized arrows at multiple enemies. Battles involve defending against monster hordes, selecting tactics, improving abilities, and using magical items. The game includes eight heroes with distinct abilities, additional skills, several difficulty levels, and a Boss fight after the enemies on each level are defeated.
