Our take on Golden Warden
Its defining structure is the Action Card turn: one choice controls both dice-based movement and the attack, making positioning and offense a single decision.
What is Golden Warden?
Golden Warden is a roguelike battle game set in a dungeon arranged like the Japanese board game sugoroku.
Each turn, choose one Action Card that combines dice-based movement with an attack using swords, magic, bows, bombs, or blunderbusses. Dungeon tiles contain different effects, and traps change each time the dungeon is entered. Enemies can be defeated or avoided while progressing toward the depths. Gold can strengthen weapons, and new weapons and upgrades gradually alter the way each run is played. The objective is to reach the dungeon's depths and claim the treasure protected by the Golden Warden.
How Golden Warden plays
- 01Combined Action Cards
- Each turn uses one card to determine both movement and an attack.
- 02Changing Dungeon Traps
- The traps change each time the dungeon is entered.
- 03Tile-Based Effects
- Dungeon tiles contain effects that can be used during battles.
- 04Weapon Progression
- Gold strengthens weapons, while new weapons and upgrades alter the way each run is played.
Golden Warden compared to similar games
Golden Warden combines card-selected movement and attacks with dungeon tiles, changing traps, gold, and weapon upgrades. DICEOMANCER also uses cards and dice in an adventure battle setting, but its description focuses on changing displayed numbers through a dice power and unlocking six mana types.
