Our take on Golden Record Retriever
Instead of using cards as the central building material of a roguelike deck-builder, the game builds teams around customizable dice. Its challenges also replace routine combat with aura-placement puzzles, while planet choices can influence later events and mission conditions.
What is Golden Record Retriever?
Golden Record Retriever is a roguelike dice-building game about River, a golden retriever sent into space to recover troublesome golden records.
Each mission assigns a destination and theme, then presents routes and situations that work like puzzles rather than standard combat. Teammates produce colored auras through dice sides and abilities; placing those auras lets River use Action Cards to resolve situations. Dice can be modified, teammates can gain improved abilities, and each companion can equip one gear item.
Antiques provide conditional effects such as bonus auras or healing. Missions include choices that influence planets and later events, while decaying planets can make future objectives harder. The game includes 80+ teammates, 3 destinations, 200+ planets, 120+ gear items, story cards, and Antiques.
