Our take on GladMort
The strict two-hit system gives combat a clear arcade focus, but it leaves little room for recovery after mistakes. Checkpoints reduce some repetition, while deaths still send progress back within the current level.
What is GladMort?
GladMort is a medieval fantasy action-platformer inspired by NEO GEO-era arcade games.
Players guide a cursed knight through five levels populated by enemies and traps, using weapons such as axes, spears, and flails, each with different strengths and weaknesses. The survival system removes armor after the first hit and causes death after the second, sending the knight back to the level's beginning or the latest checkpoint. Hidden treasures can restore armor and reveal weapons. The story follows a knight investigating a plague that raises the dead and summons demonic creatures. Pixel-art visuals, animated presentation, and a soundtrack accompany the battles.
How GladMort plays
- 01Five Combat Levels
- Each stage combines distinct environments with enemies, traps, and checkpoint-based progression.
- 02Multiple Weapons
- Axes, spears, and flails provide different strengths and weaknesses during combat.
- 03Two-Hit Survival
- The first hit removes armor, while a second hit causes death and a restart from the beginning or a checkpoint.
- 04Hidden Treasures
- Exploration can reveal replacement armor and additional weapons.
- 05Pixel-Art Presentation
- The visual style and animations draw on the NEO GEO era.
GladMort compared to similar games
GladMort uses five fixed action-platforming levels, weapon selection, traps, and a two-hit restart system. Sundered: Eldritch Edition is described as a chaotic metroidvania, so it places its action in a metroidvania structure rather than GladMort's compact level-based format.
