Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a slow or meditative experience may find the constant platforming and combat too hectic

- Solo players looking specifically for a large open-world adventure may find the island-based stages too contained
Our take on Golden Force
The focus on compact action stages trades away the broader exploration and character-building systems found in larger adventure or role-playing games. Its completion goals also place attention on times, combos, coins, and challenges rather than a single straightforward run through the campaign.
What is Golden Force?
Golden Force is a retro-style run-and-gun action-platformer set across four islands and surrounding waters.
Choose from four mercenary characters, fight the Demon King’s five Generals and their monster army, and progress through 22 stages. Movement and combat include combo attacks, slides, crush attacks, dash attacks, swimming, underwater fighting, and throwable items. Stages contain spiky hazards, collectibles, unlockable areas, mini-bosses, and larger enemies. The game includes two-player co-op, and completion goals include clearing every challenge, collecting coins, and improving stage times and combo counts. Colorful pixel art accompanies the adventure, which also includes kittens that can be harmed without an in-game penalty.

Golden Force compared to similar games
Golden Force is a retro run-and-gun platformer built around combo attacks, hazards, collectibles, and 22 stages, while Sundered: Eldritch Edition is described as a chaotic metroidvania with previous updates and the Magnate of the Gong content. Sundered therefore centers on metroidvania progression, whereas Golden Force emphasizes stage completion, timed performance, and two-player co-op.
