Our take on Genome Guardian
The large number of interacting turrets, perks, modifications, and mutations creates variety at the cost of a simpler, more immediately readable build system. Players must spend more attention comparing combinations and run effects.
What is Genome Guardian?
Genome Guardian is a microscopic roguelite turret shooter with six modes, including a vertical shoot-'em-up mode, and multiple depths within each mode.
Runs last 20 minutes and can continue in Endless Mode. Players combine four DNA-based weapon traits—rapid fire, precision, spread, and explosive effects—to create hybrid bioweapons. The game includes 49 turrets, 96 perks, 75 weapon and turret modifications, and 64 mutations that change each run's challenges. Permanent upgrades are researched between runs while facing different microbes. The presentation includes bioluminescent environments, 75 adaptive electronic music tracks, and cosmetic options such as spider legs and tank treads. Accessibility settings cover colorblindness, motion sickness, and arachnophobia. Steam features include cloud saves, trading cards, and 100 achievements.
