- Players seeking a solo-focused experience may find the survival systems built around sharing duties with teammates.
Our take on Gatewalkers
The likely sticking point is combat: skills can miss, and fights depend on positioning, timing, dodging, and coordination. Players accustomed to automatic targeting may hit that wall early, while expeditions also require adapting to each world's hazards and resource shortages.
What is Gatewalkers?
Gatewalkers is a cooperative survival RPG in which players travel through gates to explore procedurally generated worlds.
Each world has its own terrain, resources, creatures, hazards, and survival demands, such as toxic air, extreme cold, darkness, or scarce water. Players gather materials, find recipes and crafting stations, then build equipment and supplies. Combat uses aimed skills rather than automatic targeting, so attacks can miss and players can dodge. There are no fixed character classes: equipment determines available skills and supports different builds. In teams of up to 4 players, participants share tasks such as warming teammates, setting up rest areas, and watching for dangers. The goal is to adapt to changing conditions while completing expeditions and staying alive.
How Gatewalkers plays
- 01Changing survival demands
- World types introduce distinct hazards and mechanics, and some expeditions may lack basic resources such as water or wood.
- 02Aimed skill combat
- Skills can miss, while dodging, positioning, timing, and coordination affect fights.
- 03Equipment-based builds
- Weapons and armor grant skills, allowing players to shape roles such as frontline support without selecting a fixed class.
- 04Shared expedition duties
- Players can divide tasks such as lighting fires, building tents, and warning teammates about threats.
