AdventureIs Foretales worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Adventure fans who want a story with branching paths and multiple endings
- Card-game players interested in turn-based combat within an adventure
- Players who enjoy revisiting stories through different playstyles and routes
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a linear story may bounce off the branching paths and multiple possible endings.
- Players looking for real-time combat may hit a wall at the turn-based card battles.
- Players who want a short, single-route narrative may find the multiple story paths less appealing.
Our take on Foretales
The bounce point is the shift into card-based play: both the adventure and combat use cards, with combat proceeding turn by turn. Players who want direct, real-time action may hit a wall when they encounter that system rather than an action-focused battle sequence.
What is Foretales?
Foretales is a story-driven card adventure about Volepain, a small-time thief facing a curse that is ravaging the realm.
With an apocalypse approaching, choices shape the journey and its possible endings. The story involves the Nymphants, children of the Weaver who hold instruments with the power to create and destroy worlds, as well as the Cult and the Maelstorm. Gameplay combines card-based adventure, decksploration, and turn-based card combat in a board-game-like format. Different playstyles and story paths offer multiple ways through the narrative. The game features an original setting, a large cast of characters, narration by Travis Willingham, and music composed by Christophe Héral.
