Our take on Star Overdrive
Rather than treating traversal as a break between fights and puzzles, the game makes Hoverboard speed and tricks part of reaching new areas and entering combat. Keytar abilities also connect environmental problem-solving with battles, giving movement and powers roles across several parts of the adventure.
What is Star Overdrive?
After receiving a distress signal, Bios becomes stranded on the alien planet Cebete and searches for Nous, who has disappeared.
Exploration centers on a Hoverboard: speed across three biomes, chain tricks, and use momentum to reach new areas or enter fights. The Keytar provides abilities for combat and puzzles, including powers that affect gravity and unleash kinetic energy. Abilities can be combined with the surroundings to handle enemies and environmental challenges. Ruins provide opportunities to unlock skills, while gathered resources upgrade Hoverboard speed, gravity, and control. Players can also change the board’s colors and design. The open-world adventure combines traversal, combat, puzzle-solving, and a story about the disappearance of Bios’s loved one.
