What is Fires At Midnight?
Fires at Midnight is an interactive visual novel about Yun, an aspiring photographer, and Chitra, his live-in girlfriend.
The story shifts between their perspectives as they revisit memories and try to keep their relationship together in a world where sex without love causes spontaneous combustion. Players search through Yun’s belongings, read newspaper headlines, solve puzzles, and play mini-games to uncover story threads. A second visual layer shows how each character perceives the world. Photos selected for Chitra’s photobook shape which memories she recalls. The story takes place before midnight on New Year’s Eve and has three alternate endings. Its soundtrack includes music by Malaysian bands mutesite and Golden Mammoth.
