Rather than using the historical World War II setting associated with its series, the game shifts turn-based generalship into a fantasy campaign. Magic, beasts, heroes, and mechs replace the usual military roster while the army-command structure remains.

Lead an army through the fantasy world of Aer in turn-based battles against the Shadowlord and his lieutenants.
The campaign crosses five continents and varied terrain. Choose one of four generals, each with distinct traits and abilities, then recruit from four races and more than 10 unit classes. Army management includes researching upgrades, finding hidden items, and adding heroes to support troops. The game offers Campaign, Scenarios, and Local Multiplayer modes. Its fantasy setting brings heroes, magic, beasts, mortals, and mechs to a series that previously focused on World War II. The Island Challenge add-on is included.
