Our take on Exodemic
The store page foregrounds frenetic combat and upgrade combinations, while the run’s main constraint is the contagion timer: every encounter gives the virus more time to progress. Route planning therefore involves a direct trade-off between exploration, vendors, and urgency.
What is Exodemic?
Exodemic is a compact roguelike built around shoot ’em up combat and time pressure.
Players destroy alien enemies while dashing and warping between planets, with a contagion meter tracking the virus across the sector. If the meter reaches its limit, the run ends. Each attempt uses a procedurally generated map containing combat encounters, vendors, trading hubs, and other outposts. Players choose routes while allowing the infection to progress during encounters. Destroyed enemies drop scrap, which can be spent on augments for the ship’s weapons and dash abilities. Augment slots support different combinations, allowing weapon and movement effects to be strengthened during a run.
How Exodemic plays
- 01Timed Infection Meter
- The run ends when the virus spreads far enough to fill the contagion meter.
- 02Procedural Galaxy Maps
- Every run uses a generated sector with branching encounters, vendors, trading hubs, and outposts.
- 03Dash-Based Combat
- Combat includes dashing and warping between planets to avoid enemy attacks.
- 04Scrap-Funded Augments
- Defeated enemies drop scrap that can be exchanged for stronger ship augments during a run.
Exodemic compared to similar games
Exodemic combines shoot ’em up combat, a procedurally generated overworld, vendors, and a spreading-virus timer. Abyssus is a multiplayer roguelite shooter focused on hand-crafted levels, brine-powered weapons, and refitting weapons with ancient technologies. Exodemic instead centers each run on planetary movement, route choices, scrap-funded augments, and a contagion meter.
