Our take on Embark
The listing foregrounds a huge living world and detailed simulation, but the practical entry point is less prominent: even with a short tutorial and interface work, the game carries a significant learning curve, especially during Early Access.
What is Embark?
Embark is a colony management game set in a large procedurally generated 3D world with changing biomes, seasons, temperatures, and weather.
Players direct colonists across multiple underground and above-ground levels, managing needs, relationships, farming, construction, crafting, prospecting, trade, and combat. The simulation includes destructible environments, water systems with aqueducts and pumps, detailed plants and animals, and item components whose materials and quality affect performance. Colonists can tame or hunt animals, interact with factions, and defend against enemies that may dig, climb, or fly. Each map contains different points of interest, while Steam Workshop support provides modding. The game includes a short tutorial but has a significant learning curve, particularly during Early Access.
