StrategyIs Horizon worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- 4X strategy fans who want tactical control during space battles
- Players who enjoy managing colonies, technology, diplomacy, and ship construction
- Science-fiction strategy players who want open-ended missions and race customization
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a short, tightly focused strategy game may find the many interconnected systems demanding.
- Players who prefer real-time combat or a purely combat-focused loop may not fit the turn-based exploration, diplomacy, and colony-management structure.
- Players looking for a small-scale setting may not fit the broad galaxy configurations and large number of planets.
Our take on Horizon
99. That difference matters before assessing its exploration, diplomacy, combat, and management systems.
What is Horizon?
Horizon is a turn-based space strategy game about galactic exploration, conquest, and empire management.
Players explore open space, survey planets, uncover artifacts, and encounter ten alien species with distinct cultures and agendas. Colonies can develop into centers for trade, industry, science, military operations, and ship construction. Tactical battles include control of ship movement and weapons, boarding actions, and attacks from planetary or orbital defenses. The game includes diplomacy, alliances, more than 80 technologies with 10 upgrade levels each, ship design, and colony management. Players can follow open-ended missions or use a classic 4X mode, choose from eight original races, customize a race, and use modding tools to create races and scripted quests.
