Our take on Element
Rather than centering on lengthy real-time strategy sessions, the game presents planetary resource management in a format built around adjustable time, pausing, and short tactical decisions. Its space escape structure replaces the more familiar single-map strategy campaign.
What is Element?
Element is a real-time space strategy game about escaping a failing solar system.
Progress requires visiting planets, collecting enough element, and defeating enemies before moving outward. Players generate energy, extract element, and construct offensive and defensive units while balancing earth, air, and water. The game supports keyboard, mouse, touch on supported platforms, and game controllers, with input methods switchable during play. Time can be paused or accelerated, and the game view remains controllable while paused. A free-camera mode allows slow movement around the scene, while screenshot controls include standard and high-resolution captures. Linux support is described as experimental. The game requires at least 640px of vertical resolution and can render up to 4K/2160p.
How Element plays
- 01Planetary progression
- Each planet requires element collection and enemy defeat before access to farther locations.
- 02Resource balance
- Energy generation, element mining, unit construction, and management of earth, air, and water form the core resource cycle.
- 03Adjustable game speed
- Gameplay can be paused, slowed to super-slow motion, or accelerated with keyboard controls.
- 04Multiple input methods
- Keyboard, mouse, touch on supported platforms, and game controllers can be used during play.
- 05Free camera mode
- A separate camera control allows slow movement around the scene during active play or while paused.
Element compared to similar games
Element combines resource extraction, energy generation, unit construction, and planetary progression in a space setting. Anomaly: Warzone Earth also mixes action and strategy, but uses a reversed tower-defense structure focused on directing forces against alien-held cities.
