Our take on Dungeon Crawler
Persistent perks reduce the setback of death, but each failed run removes collected equipment and items. The design therefore trades expedition-level accumulation for progression that remains across attempts.
What is Dungeon Crawler?
Dungeon Crawler is a round-based, third-person fantasy roguelike set across caves and rooms.
Movement uses mouse-based point-and-click controls, with highlighted ground tiles indicating possible destinations. Each round allows one action, such as walking, guarding, attacking, or casting an acquired spell. Combat uses character statistics and dice, with attackers rolling before defenders check whether attacks are blocked or evaded. Killing creatures and clearing rooms grants experience toward level increases and permanent perks. Death sends the character back to the dungeon entrance and removes items and equipment, while experience, level, and perks remain. The game includes a tutorial, one dungeon with 4 stages, weapons and abilities including sword, bow, shield, and spells, progression up to level 20, and up to 22 perks.
How Dungeon Crawler plays
- 01Round-based actions
- Each turn permits one choice, including movement, defense, attacks, or spellcasting when magic is available.
- 02Procedural rooms
- Rooms are generated during play, and some tiles remain inaccessible until creatures are dealt with or rooms are activated.
- 03Dice combat
- Combat uses statistics and dice, with each die holding up to 5 success sides and at least 1 failure side.
- 04Persistent progression
- Experience, levels, and selected perks remain after death, while a complete progress reset can reset perks.
- 05Randomized equipment
- Chests provide equipment with rolled statistics, and deeper dungeon areas produce higher-stat rolls.
