Our take on Dreamscaper
Dreamscaper breaks from the usual action roguelike structure by placing a social waking-life phase between dream runs. Exploring Redhaven and building relationships is part of the progression loop, rather than leaving combat as the only route to advancement.
What is Dreamscaper?
Dreamscaper is an action roguelike with an alternating dream and waking-life cycle.
At night, Cassidy enters her subconscious, where changing environments contain nightmares, items, abilities, challenges, and bosses representing emotions such as Fear, Isolation, and Loss. Combat uses positioning, timing, reflexes, varied weapon classes, and powers that manipulate elements, space, or time. Permadeath makes each dream attempt temporary, while upgraded items and artifacts support future runs. During the day, Cassidy explores Redhaven, forms relationships, and uses the hopes and memories of its residents to unlock permanent upgrades. These waking sections also reveal Cassidy’s memories, experiences, and story as she confronts the darkness within her dreams.
