Our take on DRAINUS
Rather than treating incoming fire only as a hazard to dodge, DRAINUS makes enemy shots a resource: the ship can absorb them, counterattack with the stored force, and spend gathered energy on upgrades. That changes the usual shoot-and-evade rhythm of a side-scrolling shooter.
What is DRAINUS?
DRAINUS is a side-scrolling shooter about Irina, who steals the Kharlal Empire’s fighter ship to find a cure for her father and oppose the Empire.
The ship’s Reflector absorbs enemy attacks for a limited time, then uses the amount absorbed to launch counterattacks. It also stores energy in tanks, which can be spent to improve ship functions, including adding weapons. Irina’s journey brings her into conflict with the Empire’s forces as she travels toward Earth. The story also features Layla, Irina’s older sister and an Empire commander, and Gehnie, a soldier from the future seeking to prevent a galactic war.
How DRAINUS plays
- 01Reflector counterattacks

- 02Stored energy upgrades
- Energy collected in tanks can improve ship functions, including by adding weapons.
- 03Time-traveling ally
- Gehnie comes from 50 years in the future and joins Irina in opposing the Empire.
