Our take on Don't Wake Me Up
Rather than using one stable game world, the story moves through six genre-based settings and makes the romance route determine its central split. Its entirely text-based presentation also replaces visual spectacle with written scenes and imagination.
What is Don't Wake Me Up?
Don't Wake Me Up is a 400,000-word interactive novel set in a malfunctioning virtual reality.
The protagonist has no memories except knowledge of video games and travels through six worlds inspired by different genres. The story combines satire of trapped-in-a-video-game fiction with a tragicomic dating-sim structure. Choices control the story, with a major split halfway through the game based on the selected love interest. Scenarios include a weaponized top hat, a spaceship escape level, a classical music-themed monster-truck rally, and a cyberpunk casino. Romance options include an emo vampire and a video-game “Best Girl” waifu. Players can choose a nonbinary, male, or female protagonist and a straight or queer orientation.
