Our take on Descensus
Rather than using a conventional fantasy setting, the game places souls-like combat in a dieselpunk world shaped by a reality-warping catastrophe. Its death structure also turns failure into a return to a marked meteorite, with one recovery attempt for lost Ethereal energy.
What is Descensus?
Descensus is an isometric souls-like action RPG set in a post-catastrophe dieselpunk world.
The objective is to reach the heart of the Rift of the Fallen Star and stop its anomaly from spreading. Players select a predefined class, then shape the character through weapons, items, meteor spores, devices based on Rift anomalies, and morphosis changes. Combat combines melee and ranged weapons against creatures emerging from the Rift. The game includes varied biomes formed from distorted versions of the former surface world. When a character dies, rebirth occurs beside the last imprinted meteorite. Lost Ethereal energy can be recovered at the death site, but a second death causes it to dissipate.
How Descensus plays
- 01Mixed weapon combat
- Melee and ranged weapons can be combined during battles against Rift creatures.
- 02Character development
- A selected class can be shaped with weapons, items, meteor spores, anomalous devices, and morphosis changes.
- 03Distorted biomes
- The Rift contains areas based on former surface regions, with increasingly abnormal changes at greater depths.
- 04Death recovery system
- After death, the character returns to the last imprinted meteorite and can reclaim lost Ethereal energy once.
