Our take on Deep Blue Fantasy
The game ties combat choices to crew-provided dice and makes cargo and supplies affect the voyage. That creates several linked decisions, but leaves less room for a straightforward exploration loop without resource management.
What is Deep Blue Fantasy?
Set in a future where the continent lies beneath the sea, this roguelike strategy adventure follows an adventurer exploring underwater mazes in a submarine.
Players complete commissions, search for treasure, trade goods, and battle sea monsters while working to repay a loan. Crew members provide ability dice that activate different weapons, so weapon and crew combinations shape combat. Cargo weight affects submarine speed, while shortages can lower crew attributes and trigger adverse events. Trading involves buying goods in one area and selling them elsewhere. The game includes 60 weapons and pieces of equipment, varied enemies, and four marine terrain types: plain sea, gorge sea, glacier sea, and volcanic sea.
How Deep Blue Fantasy plays
- 01Dice-based combat
- Crew members supply the ability dice needed to activate different weapons.
- 02Cargo and supplies
- Heavy loads slow the submarine, while resource shortages can reduce crew attributes and cause adverse events.
- 03Inter-area trading
- Goods bought cheaply in one area can be carried to another area for resale.
- 04Four sea terrains
- Exploration includes plain, gorge, glacier, and volcanic marine environments.
