Our take on de Blob
The colorful city-painting premise is the main focus, but progression also depends on managing a depleting paint supply, rehydrating at specific locations, and earning points from missions. Those systems add resource handling and repetition to the platforming loop.
What is de Blob?
de Blob is a 3D platformer set in Chroma City, where the I.
N. K. T. Corporation has drained the environment of color. Players guide de Blob through streets, buildings, landmarks, and hazards while collecting paint, blending red, blue, and yellow, and applying color by bouncing into surfaces. Paint runs down over time, requiring refills from pools and hydrants. Missions from the Color Revolutionaries award points and lead toward an assault on the I.
N. K. T. fortress. Combat includes tanks, soldiers, turrets, and environmental dangers such as hot plates and electric shocks. The game includes a story-driven single-player mode and four-player split-screen multiplayer with eight modes, including building contests and timed races. Steam features include improved textures, upscaled videos, graphics options, remapping, and keyboard, mouse, and gamepad support.
How de Blob plays
- 01Paint-based movement
- Color is applied to buildings, roads, statues, walls, and skies when de Blob makes contact with them.
- 02Color mixing
- Red, blue, and yellow paint can be combined to produce additional colors.
- 03Paint management
- The paint supply decreases during play, with pools and hydrants providing places to refill.
- 04Split-screen multiplayer
- Up to four players can compete across eight multiplayer modes.
- 05Custom city styling
- Buildings and landmarks can be changed with custom colors, patterns, and soundtracks.
- 06Steam display options
- The Steam edition adds improved texture and lightmap resolution, upscaled videos, FXAA, and resolution and graphics-quality settings.
