Our take on Crown Gambit
The focus on a small trio and card-based encounters narrows party variety and places deck preparation at the center of combat. That supports distinct character roles, but leaves less room for broad roster management or action-oriented fighting.
What is Crown Gambit?
Crown Gambit is a narrative tactical RPG set in the troubled kingdom of Meodred.
The player guides three novice paladins—Aliza, Hael, and Rollo—through a war of succession, choosing which claimant to support and how to respond to political conspiracies, rivalries, and revolt. Decisions shape the characters’ personalities, alliances, enemies, and the story’s multiple endings. Combat takes place in turn-based card battles against bandits, knights, nobles, rebels, and supernatural creatures. Each paladin has a separate deck and combat style, with techniques to unlock and relic weapons to wield. Ancestral Grace grants access to dark power during fights, but using it carries consequences. The game also features hand-drawn illustrations and a medieval soundtrack with a modern influence.
