RPGIs Critadel worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Action roguelike fans who want changing routes and repeated runs
- Players who enjoy experimenting with large numbers of weapon configurations
- Platform-shooter players who want several characters and difficulty options
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a fixed level sequence may bounce off the repeatedly reconfigured paths
- Players who dislike frequent aiming, dodging, and combat may hit a wall during tower runs
- Players looking for a primarily story-driven adventure may find the combat and build systems take precedence
Our take on Critadel
The likely bounce point is the run structure: players who want to memorize a stable route will lose that footing when Babel’s paths are reconfigured. Combat-focused players may also stall at the aiming-and-dodge demands, especially when limited invincibility must be timed around attacks.
What is Critadel?
Critadel is a futuristic platform-shooter roguelike set inside Babel, a vast mechanical tower controlled by the Order of Noah.
Players choose from three characters, each with distinct starting equipment, upgradeable abilities, and unlockable costumes. Runs involve jumping, shooting, exploring secret rooms, and navigating branching routes that change between attempts. A 360-degree aiming cursor supports attacks in every direction, while dodge rolls provide brief protection from incoming attacks. Weapons can be bought or discovered, and artifacts grant passive effects when equipped. Crystals and orbs serve as in-game currencies. The game includes two difficulty settings and a Boss Rush mode, with more than 100,000 possible weapon configurations.
