Play it if you…
Good fit- Action-RPG players who want both authored levels and repeatable procedural dungeons
- Roguelite fans who enjoy loot collection alongside a structured campaign
- Co-op households seeking drop-in play with a second player controlling a supporting fairy
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a tightly linear campaign may find the open stage order and revisitable areas distracting
- Those wanting a conventional fantasy presentation may not enjoy the ASCII-letter characters and retro audiovisual style
- Players looking for a primarily stealth, dialogue, or town-life experience will find combat and dungeon exploration take precedence
Our take on Ampersat
The mix of authored stages and procedural delves gives the game varied structure, but the ASCII-letter cast and hybrid retro presentation may narrow its appeal compared with more conventional fantasy action RPGs.
What is Ampersat?
Ampersat is a top-down action RPG combining shooting, melee combat, exploration, light puzzles, and roguelite-style delves.
The handcrafted adventure includes more than 50 levels, with stages available in an order chosen from the town hub, plus an optional procedural area accessed through the Well. Players fight ASCII creatures in colorful environments, free captured letters, gather and augment loot, and develop a warrior mage through an extensive skill tree. Gentlheim provides shops, an inn for healing and leveling, gold storage, and upgradeable structures. Combat includes 50 creature types and 10 bosses. Local drop-in co-op supports a second player controlling an attacking fairy, with online play through Steam Remote Play Together.
