Our take on Mortal Rite
The store page gives substantial space to development-process promotion alongside the game description. Its core pitch is clearer in the combat and progression sections: a melee action game with changing revisited areas, character builds, and co-op rather than a purely fixed campaign.
What is Mortal Rite?
Mortal Rite combines Souls-like combat with roguelite progression in a single-player or cooperative adventure for up to five players.
Players embody resurrected champions through an ancient dagger, selecting characters with different fighting styles, abilities, and lore. Combat centers on melee attacks, posture breaks, dodging, sprinting, air attacks, and character-specific parries, deflections, or blocks. Ability points and items found in each area support playstyle customization, while crafting and player-to-player item trading add to progression. After defeating an area's gatekeeper, the area can be revisited with a changed map, enemy groups, and item selection. Larger multiplayer parties attract more enemies, and players can duel in the refuge for additional rewards.
How Mortal Rite plays
- 01Five-player co-op
- Multiplayer is available from the beginning, with larger groups drawing additional enemies and alternate layouts appearing in co-op.
- 02Character customization
- Characters have two stance-based playstyles, with further changes available through ability swaps, upgrades, and items.
- 03Posture-based combat
- Breaking an enemy's posture can interrupt attacks during melee encounters.
- 04Revisitable areas
- Defeated gatekeepers open areas to repeat visits featuring altered maps, enemy combinations, and item selections.
- 05Faction conflicts
- Hostile factions can be manipulated so that enemies attack one another.
- 06Item trading
- Players can exchange items with other members of the party.
