Our take on Close Combat: Last Stand Arnhem
Rather than treating each battle as an isolated match, the game connects tactical engagements to a strategic campaign. Force pools, battlegroup movement, cohesion, fatigue, reinforcements, and bridge control make the wider operation part of the play structure.
What is Close Combat: Last Stand Arnhem?
A strategy game about Operation Market Garden and the struggle for Arnhem Bridge.
Players command either the Allied operation to cross the Rhine or German forces defending against that advance. The game combines a strategic layer with 64 hand-drawn tactical maps and more than 60 battles, operations, and campaigns, including an expanded Grand Campaign. Battlegroups can be stacked, merged, moved through one another, or lend teams to other groups. Limited points determine purchases from force pools, while bridges can be demolished or repaired and rivers crossed by assault or ferry.
Static teams defend assigned maps without a battlegroup present. Battles include darkness and flare effects, with cohesion, fatigue, morale, and reinforcement timing affecting operations. Scenario editing and extensive modding cover campaigns, support missions, force pools, weather, and battlegroup behavior.
