Our take on Clandestine
The split between fieldwork and remote support gives co-op its identity, but it also makes the experience dependent on coordinating two very different interfaces and responsibilities. Solo play removes that shared-role dynamic, while the unforgiving combat leaves little room for casual experimentation.
What is Clandestine?
Set in 1996, Clandestine follows missions across Europe and North America as either field operative Katya Kozlova or hacker Martin Symborski.
Solo play supports both roles, while two-player asymmetrical co-op divides them between a spy and an overwatch hacker. The Spy explores in third person, uses weapons, gadgets, and lethal or non-lethal takedowns, and gathers intelligence to unlock later equipment and software. The Hacker monitors camera feeds, networks, and a tactical map while manipulating doors, servers, firewalls, hazards, alarms, bodies, and enemy positions. Social engineering sequences can bypass checkpoints. Missions track evidence and casualties, with story consequences based on those actions.
How Clandestine plays
- 01Asymmetrical Co-op
- Two players can divide the spy and hacker roles, with the hacker guiding the field operative.
- 02Network Manipulation
- The hacker can interfere with keypads, computers, servers, firewalls, and environmental hazards while avoiding the Network Admin.
- 03Tactical Support
- The hacker can access surveillance, mark enemies, supply ammunition or health, remove bodies, stop alarms, and bribe opponents.
- 04Consequence Tracking
- Mission outcomes respond to the evidence left behind and the number of bodies created.
- 05Social Engineering
- Cooperative dialogue scenes provide a way to pass security checkpoints and enter restricted locations.
