Our take on City VR
Instead of treating simulation as management, construction, or economic planning, City VR makes viewpoint the main activity. Changing scale, position, lighting, and weather replaces the genre’s usual emphasis on operating a system with free-form observation of recognizable urban spaces.
What is City VR?
City VR is a virtual reality exploration experience set around San Francisco, with streets and addresses corresponding to real-world locations.
It lets players teleport through the city, walk at giant scale, inspect architecture from above, zoom between ground and aerial views, and alter lighting and weather. Snapshots can record selected views, while a time-lapse sequence can show the sun rising over the Bay Bridge. Available locations include the Transamerica Pyramid, Coit Tower, AT&T Park, the Golden Gate Bridge, and the Bay Bridge. Chicago and New York City are planned as separate DLCs. The current headset listing supports HTC Vive, while Oculus support is described as planned.
