Our take on Chimpology
Rather than presenting simulation as management, planning, or system oversight, the game reduces its premise to rapid manual routing. Its comic fiction turns slow internet into a workplace task, while rhythm play and unconventional controllers replace the genre's usual menus and dashboards.
What is Chimpology?
Set in 1999, Chimpology casts the player as a chimpanzee routing pictures from a server to a client, one bit at a time.
The game uses two buttons and presents many images to process. Play can follow a rhythm or proceed without one, with a single mistake resulting in dismissal from the job. Custom pictures can be added through the game folder, although the game does not transfer those images over the internet. Input options include a keyboard, gamepad, dance mat, guitar, arcade stick, banana, and other HID controllers. The central task is to type bits, receive bananas, and keep the fictional internet operating.
How Chimpology plays
- 01Two-button routing
- Image data is processed bit by bit through a control scheme limited to two buttons.
- 02Rhythm options
- Sessions can be played with rhythmic timing or without following a rhythm.
- 03Custom pictures
- Images from the game folder can be inserted for use during play, without sending them online.
- 04Broad controller support
- The game accepts keyboards, gamepads, dance mats, guitars, arcade sticks, bananas, and other HID controllers.
- 05Single-error dismissal
- Making one mistake ends the player's employment in the fictional routing job.
