Our take on The Floor Above
Rather than treating anomaly spotting as a straightforward visual checklist, the game makes perception uncertain: blinking can change the interpretation of a scene, and repeated floors carry story meaning. Its confined one-room structure replaces exploration with observation, doubt, and deliberate choices.
What is The Floor Above?
This claustrophobic horror game places Mike in a chair inside a room that repeats on higher floors.
Players can rotate, blink, and choose between two responses: red when something remains strange or green when the room appears normal. Blinking distinguishes some hallucinations from real anomalies, while nine correct room decisions in succession are needed to escape. The game contains more than 100 handcrafted anomalies, multiple narrators, jumpscares, hidden phantom anomalies, and story details spread across repeated cycles. Five endings reveal different parts of Mike’s story. Subsequent cycles introduce greater difficulty, new clues, and further uncertainty, while the entire experience remains set in one room.
How The Floor Above plays
- 01Blink-based detection
- Blinking can reveal whether a strange sight is an imagined fragment or remains present in the room.
- 02Nine-room escape
- Players must make correct decisions across nine consecutive rooms to get out.
- 03Five story endings
- Different conclusions expose additional layers of Mike’s story.
- 04Handcrafted anomalies
- More than 100 anomalies are placed as part of the game’s story rather than generated randomly.
- 05Multiple narrators
- Several voices interact with the player and present differing perspectives.
