Our take on Bientôt l'été
Its focus on atmosphere and romantic alienation leaves little room for conventional objectives, challenge, or progression. The sparse wandering and symbolic encounters make the experience dependent on mood and interpretation rather than sustained mechanical variety.
What is Bientôt l'été?
Bientôt l’été is a two-player videogame about lovers separated by vast distances in space.
Each player takes lonely walks along a simulated ocean, accompanied by wind, music, electric seagulls, and thoughts drawn from Marguerite Duras. Players can run toward one another and touch holographic bodies through intergalactic networks. A surreal chess game provides their means of conversation, using words given to them. Exploration reveals locations and objects including a tennis court, coal, a dead dog, a café, a villa, a casino, and a ruined colonial mansion. The experience focuses on love, separation, wandering, and encounters with ordinary or absurd surroundings.
