Our take on Beat Slayer
The store copy foregrounds music, flow, and stylish combat, but the central constraint is strict rhythm timing: every move must match the soundtrack, and mistakes carry a penalty. That makes the game less of a conventional hack-and-slash experience than the genre label alone suggests.
What is Beat Slayer?
Beat Slayer is a roguelite hack-and-slash game where movement and attacks follow the soundtrack’s rhythm.
Mia, a music-loving tinkerer, battles robots across a dystopian, 90s-inspired Berlin. Runs vary according to playstyle, risk-taking, starting weapon, upgrades, and developing skills. Players choose when to dash, attack, apply status effects, or kick enemies into walls and other enemies. Allies provide weapons, upgrades, and information while Mia travels through locations including underground bunkers and rooftops. The game features waves of enemies and bosses, with mistimed actions carrying a penalty. Its combat is structured around syncing inputs with the music and maintaining momentum across repeated runs.
