Good fit- Local groups who want short competitive matches
- Players who enjoy arcade battles with simple match objectives
- Solo players willing to take on AI opponents and a frustrating challenge
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking long matches or a slower-paced game may find the 60-to-120-second rounds too brief.
- Players looking for online competition or a substantial solo experience may find the local multiplayer focus and frustrating solo play limiting.
- Players who want a game without unlockable upgrades or gambling mechanics may not want its progression system.
- Players seeking narrative-led play may find the battle-centered structure too narrow.
Our take on Battle Shapes
The short-round format keeps matches focused on immediate competition, but leaves little room for longer tactical buildup. Its couch-multiplayer emphasis also comes at the expense of online play, so groups need to be in the same place to play together.
What is Battle Shapes?
Battle Shapes is a top-down spaceship game centered on short battles against AI or other players.
Its three modes last 60 to 120 seconds: Payload has players hold a ball for the longest time, Elimination rewards the most kills, and team-only Heist combines flag capture with football. Payload and Elimination support free-for-all or teams, and all three modes can include AI. The game is built for couch multiplayer and also offers solo play. Players can unlock more than 15 shapes and take on challenges. It supports Xbox controllers. The vendor also describes solo play as frustrating and notes that the game has no online multiplayer.
