CasualIs Bacteria worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Puzzle players who enjoy arranging cells and observing their later states
- Fans of Conway's Game of Life who want a structured game based on its rules
- Players seeking a relaxing puzzle centered on grid-based simulation
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players who want interaction beyond placing cells and observing successive field states may find the core system too narrow.
- Players who do not enjoy planning how individual cells or Life patterns will develop may stop when the field fails to halt or clear.
- Players seeking a story-led experience may not find the square-field structure a match.
Our take on Bacteria
The bounce point comes when a cell placement must be evaluated through several later states. Players who do not want to reason about Gliders, Lightweight Spaceships, or a shrinking placement area may hit the wall when a field fails to halt or clear.
What is Bacteria?
Bacteria is a puzzle game based on Conway's cellular automaton Life.
A square field begins in a stable state, and the player adds a specified number of cells. After several steps, the field must halt in colored mode or become clear in hard black-and-white mode. Cells can be drawn individually or added using Life patterns such as Gliders and Lightweight Spaceships. Difficulty levels change the size of the area available for adding cells. The game focuses on arranging cells and observing how the field develops over successive steps.
How Bacteria plays
- 01Cell placement puzzles
- The player adds a specified number of cells before the field runs through several steps.
- 02Life patterns
- Available placement options include individual points, Gliders, and Lightweight Spaceships.
- 03Two outcome modes
- Colored mode requires the field to halt, while hard black-and-white mode requires it to clear.
- 04Variable placement area
- Higher difficulty levels provide a smaller area in which cells can be added.
