Our take on Azoove
The defining mechanic is a communication restriction: during one phase, players cannot discuss their hands and must use card exchanges to signal plans. The resulting teamwork depends on interpreting what allies trade rather than relying on open instructions.
What is Azoove?
Azoove is a cooperative card roguelike about returning a cursed spellbook across the Azoove desert.
Players manage dwindling resources, play cards, and respond to daily dangers called Misfortunes while trying to reach the book’s wardens. During one round phase, players cannot discuss their hands and may exchange cards without showing them. This limited communication requires teammates to infer intentions from card trades and available information. The game supports online multiplayer and includes four heroes: Oriana the Ranger, Sage the Forager, Auri the Bard, and Rin the Guardian, each with distinct powers and cards. Trinkets provide passive abilities that shape expeditions, while additional rules can be added after overcoming normal challenges.
How Azoove plays
- 01Restricted Communication
- One round phase prevents players from discussing their hands, making card exchanges the main way to convey plans.
- 02Four Playable Heroes
- Oriana, Sage, Auri, and Rin each bring separate powers and card sets to an expedition.
- 03Desert Expeditions
- Teams travel through Azoove while handling resource demands and new daily Misfortunes.
- 04Trinket Progression
- Passive items alter the direction and capabilities of individual expeditions.
- 05Veteran Challenges
- Extra rules can be added after standard challenges are overcome to increase the demands of later play.
