Our take on ASTRAL GATE
The combat-test framing leaves the story in a secondary role: narrative scenes can be skipped, while repeated attempts, fixed encounters, and full-run resets form the main structure. The result is a compact tactical dungeon challenge rather than a conventional RPG built around persistent progression.
What is ASTRAL GATE?
Astral Gate is a command-based RPG focused on combat.
Each run begins by selecting four members from nine characters, then sending the party through seven dungeon stages with limited resources. Enemy types, rewards, and stage action patterns remain fixed, allowing strategies to develop across repeated attempts. Route choices can create three kinds of branches and introduce stronger enemies. A run lasts about 1. 5 to 3. 5 hours, while total play time is about 15 to 25 hours. A party wipe returns the game to party creation, and cleared stages and equipment do not carry over. The story follows four heroes investigating ruins and a hidden treasure, but story scenes can be skipped. This is the Japanese version.
How ASTRAL GATE plays
- 01Nine Character Roster
- Each run uses a selected group of four from the available cast.
- 02Fixed Enemy Patterns
- Enemy appearances and rewards stay consistent between attempts, allowing strategies to be based on prior runs.
- 03Branching Dungeon Routes
- Three branch types can alter progression and bring in stronger opponents.
- 04Run-Based Progression
- A defeated party sends the next attempt back to formation, without retaining cleared stages or equipment.
- 05Optional Story Scenes
- The narrative can be skipped while still allowing every route to be completed.
