Our take on ArcRunner
ArcRunner focuses on repeated combat runs, trading a fixed, predictable route for randomized levels and upgrade choices. That structure gives weapon and character experimentation a central role, but leaves less room for a carefully paced progression through one unchanging sequence of areas.
What is ArcRunner?
ArcRunner is a cyberpunk action roguelite shooter set aboard the space station called The Arc.
Players battle machine hordes while attempting to reset a rogue AI, choosing among Soldier, Ninja, and Hacker characters with different weapons and abilities. Runs pass through randomized levels in zones including The City and Eden Heights. After completing levels, players select augmentations and spend collected nanites on permanent upgrades in the cryochamber, such as increased damage, higher health, weapon modification slots, and additional augmentations. Weapons can be found by scanning environments and looting defeated enemies, with examples including the Demolisher shotgun and Plasma Bow. The game supports solo play, local cooperation, and online multiplayer for up to three players online.
How ArcRunner plays
- 01Randomized Level Runs
- Multiple zones use generated layouts, including The City and Eden Heights, so each run changes.
- 02Three Combat Roles

- 03Nanite Progression
- Collected nanites can purchase permanent upgrades in the cryochamber, including damage, health, and weapon modification slots.
- 04Online Cooperative Play
- Online multiplayer supports up to three players working together against the rogue AI.
- 05Weapon Modifications
- Players can find weapons such as the Demolisher and Plasma Bow, attach modifications to increase damage, and equip multiple weapons.
ArcRunner compared to similar games
Abyssus also combines multiplayer shooting with a roguelite adventure, while ArcRunner uses randomized space-station zones, three character roles, nanite-based permanent upgrades, and local as well as online cooperation. Abyssus instead describes hand-crafted levels, brine-powered weapons, and ancient technology modifications.
