Our take on Discounty
The defining structure is a single-player supermarket campaign that combines day-to-day retail work with after-hours exploration of Blomkest, tying store growth to relationships and community tensions.
What is Discounty?
Discounty is a narrative management simulation with a 20–25 hour single-player campaign.
The player runs the only supermarket in Blomkest, arranging shelves and products, managing stock, cleaning floors, organising storage, and operating the checkout. Trade negotiations with manufacturers provide access to goods, including local specialties, while store expansion and advertising support business growth. Outside opening hours, the player explores the harbour town, meets residents, develops relationships, and uncovers its secrets. The story follows community tensions surrounding the supermarket and its secretive family business. Character appearance, clothing, and name can be customised. The campaign presents a choice between pursuing profits and seeking benefits for the wider community.
How Discounty plays
- 01Store Layout Planning
- Shelves, products, aisles, and decorations can be arranged to shape the supermarket.
- 02Retail Operations
- Daily duties include replenishing shelves, cleaning the store, sorting storage, and serving shoppers at checkout.
- 03Trade Negotiations
- Deals with manufacturers provide merchandise, including goods associated with the local area.
- 04Town Relationships
- Exploring Blomkest after closing introduces residents, develops connections, and reveals hidden secrets.
- 05Store Expansion
- Business profits can be reinvested into a larger shop and local advertising.
Discounty compared to similar games
Discounty focuses on running a supermarket, including stock work, checkout duties, shelf arrangement, manufacturer deals, and store expansion. Bear and Breakfast centres on operating a woodland bed-and-breakfast, while Calico involves rebuilding a cat café and filling it with furniture, pastries, decorations, and animals. Those alternatives therefore use hospitality or café management rather than supermarket retail as their main workflow.
