Our take on Archipelago
The salary system makes every extra unit a recurring expense, so a larger defense is not automatically the safest choice. This trade-off places financial decisions alongside unit placement.
What is Archipelago?
Defend randomly generated islands in a roguelike tower defense game.
Each wave requires placing units and choosing a mix that balances survival with income. Units receive a salary every wave, so maintaining a large force can provide safety while reducing available income; using fewer units creates greater financial risk. Combine units with environmental features to develop defensive strategies, and find charms during play to repel enemies. The game focuses on placement, income management, risk and reward, and adapting defenses to changing island layouts.
How Archipelago plays
- 01Randomized islands
- Each defensive run takes place on an island generated for that playthrough.
- 02Wave salaries
- Units require payment after every wave, linking army size to income management.
- 03Unit combinations
- Different units and environmental features can be combined to form defensive plans.
- 04Charms
- Charms can be found during play and used as part of the defense.
