Our take on Arakion: Book One
Players who expect levels to drive character growth may hit a wall early: Arakion explicitly removes leveling, putting progression on choices instead. Those wanting both combat modes should also note that the overhaul with turn-based and real-time play is on the beta branch.
What is Arakion: Book One?
Arakion: Book One is a grid-based role-playing game in which a party of three heroes explores a fractured fantasy world.
The group visits dungeons, forests, and temples, solves puzzles, and fights monsters while searching for a safe place amid the upheaval. Players choose each hero’s race, profession, and traits, and make equipment through crafting rather than finding it. Town building lets players choose how to develop a settlement, including farming or defense. Friendly creatures can be rescued, trained, and taken into combat.
The game also includes recruitable non-player characters, minigames, an optional hardcore mode, and a day-and-night cycle. The vendor says the story will be released across three books and multiple chapters. A major overhaul with both turn-based and real-time combat is available on the beta branch.
