Our take on Apollyon: River of Life
The store presentation foregrounds the large word count, art total, and broad occult setting, while the central experience is a choice-heavy RPG built around ritual encounters. Multiplayer is also limited to the player and up to two friends.
What is Apollyon: River of Life?
Apollyon: River of Life is a choice-focused RPG set in a dark fantasy occult world.
Players use obsidian tokens on a ritual table to influence available spirits, abilities, and challenges. Each round presents three entities that can be handled through combat, invocation, negotiation, deception, or other choices. Decisions alter character and wider story arcs. Players can summon spirits, retain some as permanent Invocations, and carry charms between rituals. The game supports solo play or multiplayer with up to two friends, who share the table’s alignment and face spirits together. Ten playable characters have individual stories and abilities. It is described as a 40+ hour game with 550,000+ words and over 600 pieces of custom art.
