Our take on APE OUT
Rather than treating combat as a sequence of weapon upgrades, the game makes momentum and enemy bodies the central tools. Captors become shields, projectiles, and obstacles, while the changing routes replace the fixed-stage structure common in action games.
What is APE OUT?
A fast-paced action game about an ape escaping captivity through corridors, open spaces, and labyrinths.
Each procedurally generated route contains human captors, traps, breakable barriers, and an exit. The ape can seize enemies, hold them in front of incoming attacks, slam them into walls, or throw them into other captors. Movement builds momentum as the escape continues, while bold colors and shifting perspectives frame the action. The soundtrack reacts to events with drums and cymbals, creating a rhythmic layer for the violence. Progress centers on reaching freedom through changing paths rather than following a fixed route.
How APE OUT plays
- 01Captors As Weapons
- Enemies can be restrained, used to block attacks, hurled into one another, or driven into walls.
- 02Generated Escape Routes
- Paths vary across tight corridors, open areas, and maze-like sections containing traps and destructible objects.
- 03Reactive Jazz Score
- Drums and cymbals respond to the on-screen action as the escape unfolds.
APE OUT compared to similar games
APE OUT focuses on escaping procedurally generated routes through grabbing, throwing, and smashing captors, while SUPER CHICKEN JUMPER combines running, jumping, dodging, and shooting in a runner format. Sundered: Eldritch Edition is a chaotic metroidvania, emphasizing exploration within that structure rather than APE OUT's continuous escape paths.
