Our take on Alpha Protocol™
The focus on mission choices and their consequences narrows the experience around narrative decision-making. That emphasis leaves less room for broad exploration or systems unrelated to Thorton's role as an agent.
What is Alpha Protocol™?
Michael Thorton is a young operative cast out by his own government, yet he alone possesses knowledge that could prevent a looming global disaster.
To pursue the threat, he must distance himself from those he once pledged to defend. Each mission offers multiple objectives and leaves room for different approaches, with decisions and actions shaping the spy he becomes. Choices made throughout the campaign produce lasting effects on Thorton’s path and on the wider world. The game blends combat and role-playing with a story focused on allegiance, solitude, clandestine work, and the repercussions of player decisions.
How Alpha Protocol™ plays
- 01Choice-Driven Missions
- Different approaches to mission objectives shape Thorton's development as an agent.
- 02Consequential Decisions
- Player choices affect the protagonist's future and the world's fate.
- 03International Catastrophe
- The campaign centers on stopping a global threat using information only Thorton possesses.
Alpha Protocol™ compared to similar games
Alpha Protocol focuses on an espionage campaign where mission decisions shape the protagonist and the story's consequences. Ghost of a Tale is also an action RPG, but centers on a mouse's stealth-focused adventure, disguises, conversations, and exploration in a medieval animal world rather than international covert operations.
