We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Horror players who want stealth built around enemy movement and limited actions
- Puzzle-oriented players who enjoy retaining knowledge across repeated attempts
- Players who prefer short, tactical movement decisions over unrestricted exploration
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking continuous action may find the stop-and-move loop structure deliberate and interruption-heavy.
- Players who want a broad combat system may find the focus on hiding, evasion, and positioning restrictive.
- Players looking for a large cast of playable characters or open-world exploration may find the facility setting narrow in scope.
Our take on 13 Steps
The premise foregrounds horror, mystery, and escape, but the central experience is repeated route planning under a step limit. Progress comes from carrying knowledge through resets and learning enemy behavior, so the game’s pacing is shaped as much by trial and repetition as by discovery.
What is 13 Steps?
Explore the EOS Complex while avoiding automated security bots that move only when the player moves.
Each loop gives a limited number of steps to investigate the facility, solve its mystery, and find an escape route. When the count reaches zero, the environment resets, while collected items and knowledge remain. Progress depends on observing enemy behavior, moving between cover, hiding in lockers, peeking around corners, and staying out of sight. Shadow Step allows instant movement between locations, including places that may otherwise be unreachable, but its uses are limited during each loop. Messages and clues throughout the complex reveal its history, the intentions behind the facility, and the consequences of how the escape is completed.
How 13 Steps plays
- 01Step-Based Time Loops
- Running out of steps resets the world while preserving items and knowledge.
- 02Reactive Security Bots

- 03Stealth Tactics
- Players can use lockers, corners, cover, and line-of-sight breaks to avoid pursuit.
- 04Shadow Step
- This ability enables instant movement between locations but has limited uses per loop.
- 05Facility Mystery
- Messages and environmental clues reveal what happened at EOS and its underlying intentions.
