Our take on Yoren
The focus on experimental VR spellcasting narrows the experience around magic interaction. That emphasis comes with an unfinished state: bugs, glitches and performance problems are expected while other parts remain under development.
What is Yoren?
Yoren is an early-access VR fantasy game focused on gesture-based spellcasting.
Players draw rune shapes to select spells and squeeze the Valve Knuckles controller to activate them. As a lone bounty hunter, the player explores an open world containing fallen kingdoms, dungeons, mystical creatures, witches and ghouls. Crystals and other ingredients can be collected for brewing potions and crafting wands, while exploration reveals recipes, materials and spells. A hideout in the icy mountains includes a practice field with training dummies and a forge.
Dungeons and fallen kingdoms contain area-specific loot, artifacts and bosses. Defeating each dungeon or kingdom teaches a new rune, with examples including water, fire and blood. These elements have different advantages, including healing or aggressive uses. The game currently functions mainly as an experimental magic sandbox, with development ongoing and bugs, glitches and performance issues expected.
